The Borghese Gallery in Rome is one of Italy’s most treasured art museums, showcasing an exceptional collection of Renaissance and Baroque masterpieces. Housed in the elegant 17th-century Villa Borghese, the museum was originally the private collecti... read moreon of Cardinal Scipione Borghese, an avid art patron. The villa’s original design as an exhibition space adds a unique intimacy to the viewing experience, allowing visitors to engage closely with each work.

The collection features celebrated sculptures by Gian Lorenzo Bernini, including “Apollo and Daphne,” “David,” and “The Rape of Proserpina,” which highlight his dynamic, expressive style. Paintings by Caravaggio such as “Boy with a Basket of Fruit” and “David with the Head of Goliath” illustrate his striking use of light and shadow. Other highlights include Raphael’s “The Deposition” and Titian’s “Sacred and Profane Love.” Each of the gallery’s 20 rooms is adorned with rich décor, frescoes, and classical detailing that elevate the artistic setting.

The Borghese Gallery is open Tuesday through Sunday from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM, with the last admission at 5:00 PM. It is closed on Mondays and major holidays like December 25th and January 1st. Visits are organized in two-hour time slots, and advance reservations are required due to limited entry capacity. Although tickets are typically needed, the gallery offers free admission on the first Sunday of each month. Booking early is strongly recommended to secure a preferred time slot and ensure a relaxed visit.
